Do You Have What it Takes?

According to most Human Resources Directors (the folks who hire other folks), the top ten characteristics they seek in job candidates are:

Flexibility
Self-Confidence
Interpersonal Skills
Honesty and Integrity
Motivation and Initiative
Enthusiasm
Teamwork Skills
Leadership Skills
Strong Work Ethic
Good Written and Oral Communication Skills

Assess yourself. Are you working to develop and strengthen the qualities identified above?   If you are weak in any of the characteristics, take the time while you're at Missouri State to improve yourself!  There's no better time to do it.

Human Resource Directors also seek job candidates who can speak the language of the profession, who are familiar with the major issues and concerns of the profession, and who have had some exposure to the profession.   Self-initiated volunteer work in a profession can give you the step up you need in this regard.

SOC 499 (Internship in Applied Sociology) will, if you take it, give you an on-the-job experience which may greatly facilitate your move into full time employment following graduation.
