Department Scholarship Opportunities
Three different scholarships are offered by the department. They are the:
Walter O. Cralle Scholarship
Lloyd R. Young Scholarship
Donald D. Landon Public Affairs Scholarship

The Walter O. Cralle Scholarship
The Walter O. Cralle Scholarship Fund was established in 1982 by his family and friends on behalf of this remarkable man and in recognition of his many accomplishments. Dr. Cralle was among the department's first and most distinguished faculty.
Academic Areas Included: Scholarship awards are competitive with at least one, sometimes as many as three, given in an academic year to students majoring in Anthropology, Sociology, or Crime and Society.
Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the Cralle Scholarship, a student must have completed at least 60 hours of academic work, possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and demonstrate active service to the Department, the University, and/or the community. The scholarship pays one full semester undergraduate tuition and fees. To date, 42 outstanding students have received the Cralle Scholarship.

Lloyd R. Young Scholarship
One Lloyd R. Young Scholarship scholarship will be awarded annually to a student enrolled at Missouri State University with a declared major in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
The applicant must be a junior standing with 60 or more credit hours or senior standing with 90 or more credit hours. Applicant must also have a minimum 3.00 overall grade point average.
Recipient must be enrolled in at least 12 hours the semester they receive the award.
Public service is an important component of this scholarship. Applicant shall submit one page letter to the Departmental Awards Committee explaining his/her experience in and commitment to public service.
Award will be made with regard for financial need.
Current scholarship amount is $500.00

Donald D. Landon Public Affairs Scholarship
One Donald D. Landon Public Affairs Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student enrolled at Missouri State University with a declared major in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
The applicant must be a junior standing with 60 or more credit hours or senior standing with 90 or more credit hours. Applicant must also have a minimum 3.00 overall grade point average.
Recipient must be enrolled in at least 12 hours the semester they receive the scholarship.
Preference will be given to a student who exhibits a record of service, leadership, and qualities consistent with the goal of the Public Affairs Mission, "To produce citizens of enhanced character, more sensitive to the needs of community, more competent and committed in their ability to contribute to society and more civil in their habits of thought, speech and action." To show this pledge, applicant shall submit a one page letter to the Department Awards Committee explaining his/her experience in and commitment to public service.
Award will be made with regard to financial need.
Current scholarship amount is $500.00.

Scholarship in Societal Studies
One Scholarship in Societal Scholarship will be awarded annually to an undergraduate student enrolled at Missouri State University with a declared major of Sociology, Anthropology, or Crime and Society.
The recipient must be at the sophomore level or higher and in good academic standing.
Recipients must be enrolled as full-time students the semester they receive the scholarship.
Awards will be made with regard for financial need.
Award amount approximately $700.00
